What is Yoga?
Yoga originates from ancient India and is a system of physical and breathing exercises, as well as meditation, leading to one’s deep transformation from within.
The term ‘yoga’ stands for ‘union’, ‘connection’ and ‘integrity’ which are in fact the essence of yoga practice itself. Yoga shows us how our body, breath and mind interact with one another and allows us to achieve the internal balance and harmony.
Thanks to the various yoga poses, known as ‘asanas’, our bodies become stronger, more flexible and efficient, our silhouette improves, our joints become more mobile, muscles get stronger and less pressure is put on the spine. Also, the functions of the internal organs are improved, e.g. the digestive system. Our vital natural strengths are finally alert. Our general fitness improves significantly and, at last, we begin to feel good in our body.
Yoga stimulates and regenerates our body and makes us feel better, not only physically but mentally as well. It teaches us the method of concentration and relaxation. Due to the attention we pay to our breathing during asanas, as well as breathing exercises themselves (called ‘pranayama’), our neurological system is better stimulated; our mind becomes calm and peaceful. We begin to feel relaxed, more energetic and happy.
To practice yoga is to travel within oneself and this journey allows us to set ourselves free from emotions, debilitating thoughts and perceptions of us and the world around us. Thanks to yoga we begin to understand our nature and the reality that surrounds us. We start to live at peace with ourselves, others and the universe.
The benefits of yoga affect many aspects of our life. However, its actual value cannot be described by words. Yoga is not a faith or religion. It is an experience. Therefore, to understand and feel yoga and its effects, we need to begin to practice it.
I love Pati's class. I attend two yoga classes per week but Pati's is by far the best. She is patient and caring and this shows in her class. She is also very encouraging. I always leave with a good sense of wellbeing and inner calm and look forward to the next one. Even when I returned to class after a short illness I was pleased to find I had not forgotten anything that Pati had taught me. There are many different levels and age groups at Pati's class but she takes her time to make sure everybody is doing the poses correctly. Most enjoyable class.
My mum and I both look forward to coming to Pati's classes every week. The fact that we can both enjoy it and feel the benefits is a testament to the fact that it is a well-balanced class for all levels and abilities. Pati is an excellent teacher :) very passionate about her subject.
My husband and I started private classes with Pati at our home six months ago. We both have low back problems due to our lifestyle. Pati was the best thing that could happen to us. She is a very experienced yoga teacher and tailored all of the classes to help us release the pain and start building up the body strength. She would also regularly ask us about our needs to ensure that the classes meet our expectations and help us with our goals. Pati taught us the basics of yoga very quickly and ensured that all postures were done correctly to avoid injuries. Pati also has a very friendly and positive personality making the classes an enjoyable part of the day. We would highly recommend her!
